At this point we have to step back and ask ourselves WHY?
WHY create so blatant an opening for vote count manipulation, with secret hidden columns, and then strip the security protection from it?
WHY then use that GEMS unsecured 2nd and 3rd Column where results can be easily altered for the critical Final Report election results? Instead of the original, protected 1st Column?
WHY even have a 2nd or 3rd Column, which bookkeepers and accountants claim to be for fraudulent purposes alone?
WHY insist on using GEMS (& others) tabulators despite vigorous protests by Computer Scientists everywhere denouncing them as risky, insecure and deliberately designed for fraud--capable of “severe disruption of an election?”
WHY insist on installing this highly corruptible system in every county by 2006?
WHY eliminate all standard security devices that would permit tracing of unauthorized entries into the system during the vote count?
WHY use secret proprietary code for a process that should be public and transparent?
WHY eliminate paper trails from the machines, or oppose their installation, that could verify the actual vote as a backup audit when the system cannot?
WHY use connected Modems to transmit votes over insecure phone lines-open to hackers?
WHY discourage important testing of system’s vulnerability and performance, allowing illegal certification without those tests ever having been conducted?
WHY entrust a few privately owned and partisan corporations to control the entire voting process for this large and diverse Country?
WHY allow convicted felons to hold senior positions in these companies and program the code that counts the votes?
WHY are we asked to engage in Faith Based Voting with our constitutional right to public oversight stripped from us?
WHY would anyone object to measures that could place the casting of our vote above suspicion?
WHY is our national media not in the least even curious about this important story?
